to do a gel transfer you use acrylic gel medium to strip text and pictures from magazines and newspaper.
you coat the magazine with several layers of heavy or extra heavy gel.it becomes a film and it strips the ink off of the paper. you wet the paper and then scrub it off. you now have a film that has the text/pictures from whatever you are copying.
you can apply it to a canvas or whatever surface using the same gel medium as an adhesive.
another way to do it if you dont mind the picture being backwards is just to apply matte medium to canvas or panel and then put your image or text down on top of it. allow it to dry and coat the paper with water and scrub away with a sponge.
