foam brush no thinning needed
your best bet is to get etch bath instead of etch cream.... with etch bath no thinning is needed. etch cream is thick and nasty and doesnt flow through anything well...

i really dislike acid markers. there dangerous (i know many people that have been hurt because of the marker leaking on them) and there very expensive. i would rather but some grog and a mop or two.
One adviise from europe .
never use fluoridric acid. Even you can have it , it would not work alone .too dangerous .
never buy armor etch kind of thing . if you stole it , it's different .
if you buy it you 're a fuckin' dumb ass .
you can have better result (chemicaly) otherway .
