this is something i wish i could do..but over in the UK our freights dont travel far at all...and because its such a small place it wouldnt be worth it anyway....and the freights we do haave are tiny shit things...

From all the i odd road trips and squatting etc ive done ive done this looks to be one of the most fun and good ways to see shit...

nope, a lot of the time, especially for heavy trains, and ones that are going through mountains and shit, they'll attach units to the back of the train, which are always unmanned and usually unlocked. you can ride in em, like that picture. Sacramento, CA to Ogden, Utah.

yea dpu's are usually a good ride especially during winter. during crew changes cram into the bathroom and be nice and quiet. i've been caught riding in a rear unit and had to push past an engineer and dip into a field. it was a close call and ended up havin to hide out in thayer missouri for a couple days before we could get out again.

ahh yea that was my second guess, here in texas theyre aren't usually units in the back. I want to hop from houston to san diego befor it gets too cold

I never guessed people from STP would be on here. Also I never thought someone would post detailed information about catching trains on here. Not something I would personally do, but obviously someone would. OP I see you posted a picture of some oggles, and a picture of a good friend of mine. I dont know you, and I dont understand why you posted on here. Information, free to the masses? I never doubted writers and riders would mix, but I think there is a lot of mixing that should be encouraged less.

I'd be happy to see some kids stepping out of their element and experiencing what its like to smell like shit and to eat cold canned food, but I would not be so happy to see some kids getting on trains in crews to paint and fucking with someone who is in "their" yard.

Im sure the internet is a lot less subversive than I am making it seem, but it certainly has the potential to entice a lot to do stupid things.

Ride a train, get a $250 fine and months in jail, especially in Kfalls where the bull shoots you with rock salt. Pasco throws away your pack and throws you in jail, they have a heat sensor gun that will catch you. Same goes for Seattle. Its Federal Property, the bulls are US Marshals which means they have more authority than City Police. Lets not forget the number of severed limbs and dead friends you get from riding trains. Write on them, not ride.

All travelers I met use their parents money.
Carhartts aren't cheap.
Who do you think pays for their pitbull puppy and all the shots needed?
Band T-shirts.. you've been to shows right? They typically cost $5-12.. These travelers typically save up their allowance for awhile.
If your lucky you might get one to mow the lawn or take out the trash once a week, but usually they just drink under bridges with change they found in moms mini-van.
If you ever see one outside a store with a sign saying "Traveling Broke and Hungry", well then you have seen a train rider. Always Traveling, Always broke, and Always sick of moms Meatloaf. And fuck doing dishes!
