yea, i figured i needed a lens with lower f stop. I was using a 70-300 f/4-5.6 lens, so it didnt really allow much light in. Oh well, it wasnt supposed to be professional, it was jus for fun.
somone shoud post some images from a d40, just curious about how the images are. [Broken External Image]:http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/5117/photogp.th.jpg little somthin.

My brother just got a new camera so I took some pics with it. When he sends them to me i'll upload them. He got a Canon Rebel XS T1i. I like it alot more than the one he had before. The Canon Rebel E05 XS. Which one do you think would be better for a starter? I like both of them but the new one takes a lot better pictures but is like $500 more. Bump for crits.
tripod, manual focus and for that street pic, i would open the aperature more and have a shorter exposure
none are really that good. they are really out of focus and such. And there is no canon rebel xs t1i. There is a Canon Rebel XS and a Canon Rebel T1i, but they are two different cameras.
Oh well he has the second one then. They might not be great but anything is good for me right now. I hate my shitty point n shoot. You mean the one with the lights? I know it's not great i really didn't know what the fuck i was doing but i somehow got the camera to get a long exposure. I had the settings on A-DEP with the ISO at 400 i might have had the aperature at -1 but im not sure. I might have had the white balance on auto but i'm not sure. THe reason that the pic is so bright is because that street is very bright. There's store all around it and lights everywhere. I have a photography book that has some really interesting information in there. It's helped me quite a bit but I can't practice anything because I don't have an SLR yet.
i have that camera. I like it. Whats the best setting to shoot when doing like 5-30 second exposures? by setting i mean f-stop, iso, etc.
depends on what your after, for the best picture quality, shoot at the lowest ISO you can, 100 or similar, and f stop depends on what your after also, for long light stars and shit like that use a small fstop but for sharper images with more in focus use higher f stops like 5.6 or 11.
alright fasho. Its freakin hard focusing well at night. I came back with so many blurry ass pictures. shitty and blurry http://img34.imageshack.us/i/img1884t.jpg/ me likey http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/2189/img1892.jpg
take a torch to shine on whatever your subject is so you can focus, use manual focus dont bother with auto focus in pitch black it's useless.
Thanks for the tips Perv, I know they scanned like shit. I'm actually going in the darkroom today at my school to develop them myself.
