same situation here. maxtor 300gb decded to stop working after 3 weeks. i foolishly did not have anything backed up. Maxtor replaced the drive for free, but do not offer data recovery under the warranty. It teaches you a good lesson about backing up. i now back EVERYTHING up onto two separate external hard drives. Technology is a cunt.
