^^true It would be amazing if we could reach the speed of light. Space travel would be much quicker and humans would be able to explorer wayyy more. I thought that one particle accelerator could reach speeds close to the speed of light?
Well, the only way a particle can be moved even slightly slower than the speed of light needs to have little to no mass. So, it's really unreasonable to think humans will ever be able to do that.
The odds are astronomically against aliens not existing. I believe the current definition of the shape of the universe is that it is "Finite, yet boundless" meaning it has a definite limited area, but doesn't ever end, rather just curves back on itself. Much like walking around the earth. The earth is limited, yet you could walk in one direction forever.
Wow, the conversation in this thread is fucking lame. Thread killers. I "googled" "awesome space pictures" and so I will share my findings: [Broken External Image]:http://static.desktopnexus.com/wallpapers/24943-bigthumbnail.jpg [Broken External Image]:http://www.ig-headquarters.com/Green Aurora.jpg Their invading! i doubt it how the hell would mayans or aztecs or whoever they were, how would they be able to predict that
and it's technically not supposed to be the end of the world. it could be anything phenomenally significant and transformative. no telling.
I dont believe in that shit. I think the mayan calender ends because they fucking dissapeared. They dont know what happened to them so maybe they didnt have time to finish their calender.

One theory is the mayans killed themselves thru their own stupidity. They used to throw the bodies of those they sacrificed into the cenotes, which are bodies of water linked underground and have holes penetrating the surface. They'd throw dead bodies into one cenote and use another for their source of water, obviously since they're are linked underground their water source became poisoned. I'm sorry but if a civilization can't work out that the water from cenotes is linked and not separate you think they're gonna be able to calculate the end of the world? Here's something to chew on... In 1961, University of California, Santa Cruz astronomer and astrophysicist Dr. Frank Drake devised the Drake equation. This controversial equation multiplied estimates of the following terms together: The rate of formation of suitable stars. The fraction of those stars which contain planets. The number of Earth-like worlds per planetary system. The fraction of planets where intelligent life develops. The fraction of possible communicative planets. The "lifetime" of possible communicative civilizations. Drake used the equation to estimate that there are approximately 10,000 planets containing intelligent life, with the possible capability of communicating with Earth in the Milky Way galaxy.[29] Based on observations from the Hubble Space Telescope, there are at least 125 billion galaxies in the universe. It is estimated that at least ten percent of all sun-like stars have a system of planets[30], there are 6.25*1018 stars with planets orbiting them in the universe. If even a billionth of these stars have planets supporting life, there are some 6.25 billion life-supporting solar systems in the universe. I wonder if jesus visited those planets too...
