Nah man, the acetone will make a great buffer between the laptops plastic shell and the grit/grain of the sandpaper.
yeah word, it wont do any damage to your dad's laptop, I have done this on a piece of paper on my monitor, used nail polish remover and sandpaper, really good combo when tryin to get it out
I used a really rough one like this. [Broken External Image]:http://www.h3.dion.ne.jp/~mokei/image/mat-sandpaper01.jpg and i used acid and that to do it, did the trick, not eevn a scratch because the acid will make the sand flatten out
