well i was reading that a lot of ppl use lenses that are higher up for portraits. which is something that i want to do in the future. shifted, i think you should get yourself a fisheye, and if you have one, use it lol. it would make some of those shots look awesome.
here you go, upstate 85mm f/1.2 . the only portriat lens. But seriousy, are you using an APS sensor camera or full frame? on aps (1.6 crop) the 50mm will be closer to an 85, so that will be a great portriat lens, you might look into a 70-200 zoom also
he was talking about shooting on a d40, I'd be willing to bet he's not about to dish out $2000+ on either a 85 1.2 or a 70-200 2.8. the 50mm either 1.8 or 1.4 is reasonably priced and fast, you can't go wrong. And if that 85 is yours, clean that shit..
that 85mm looks ridiculous lol. im thinkin of getting something thats around 200mm or something idk yet
sorry, forgot about this one [Broken External Image]:http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd99/powerfulimpakt/prty/18.jpg im getting a opteka fisheye converter for $25...fuck it when and if i ever get the $ for one i defeinetly will
Nah, get a 50. EVeryone should own a fifty. Then eventually get a 70-200 or 50-135 f/2.8. I have the Tokina 50-135 which is a DX equivalent of 70-200 2.8
I used one of those on sunday. Except it was a 50-500. That thing is huge. Took me two hands to focus. Takes nice photos though
Focus or zoom whatever. It was a big lens and It was hard for me to zoom with one hand so I held it with one and zoomed with the other.
speaking of which, have you ever seen austin stevens snakemaster on tv? This guy was trying to take pictures of an elephant with a canon 400mm lens, handheld and not even looking through the viewfinder.

that's a 200-500 2.8 over $30k and it's 'zoom by wire,' the lens requires it's own batteries [Broken External Image]:http://www.juzaphoto.com/shared_files/articles/sigma_200-500/009477.jpg
