Host18 Interview ![]() Bombing Science: What's good Host18, what are you up to these days? Host18: Chillin, trying to keep it real, internet style. BS: Let's start with the basics: How long have you been writing and what crews do you rep? Host18: I have been writing about 20 years now and I am apart of the DYM Graffiti Club. BS: What's the advantage of being part of a crew? Host18: You get to have the same arguments with the same people over and over. ![]() BS: Can you tell us the story behind your second nickname,"41Shots"? Host18: Yes, of course. In 1999 an unarmed immigrant named Amadou Diallo was murdered by New York City police by shooting him 41 times. He was murdered in cold blood. NYC has a strong history, present and I'm sure future of police brutality. Police murder and assault innocent people often here and it usually goes unrecognized. Writing 41Shots was my way of being a small reminder to people who forget so easily about the corruption that goes on around them. BS: Three words that describe your style? Host18: One word- Me. ![]() BS: Where are you located and what are your thoughts on the local scene you're part of? Host18: I'm from Brooklyn NYC. It is hard for me to comment on the "scene" here. The quality of most of the graffiti done is so poor that I don't even look anymore. A good amount of the quality stuff is done by out-of-towners and even that has slowed down. NYC is in a graffiti depression with only a handful of people doing solid work. But that's just my opinion. BS: What keeps you inspired and motivated to do graffiti after all these years? Host18: Right now I am on a bit of a break. I feel burnt out and need to refresh. I'm still painting but not going all out. Graffiti is my life and my livelihood, without it I got nothing else. I make my living doing graffiti and it is my source of enjoyment as well BS: When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up? Host18: A veterinarian, I have always had a love for animals. But I always loved art also so I took the route that didn't require schooling. ![]() BS: What are you now? Host18: I'm Host18 BS: What song has been in your head lately? Host18: I'm also taking a break from listening to so much music. Everyone is always plugged in, headphones or whatever. You forget what the world sounds like. I just need my ears to be free for a little while. BS: 5000$ to spend, what do you do? Host18: I would just put it in the bank, sorry I'm no fun. BS: You probably know writers from all around the globe but if it wasn't for graffiti, do you think you'd be as open to the world? Host18: Graffiti has allowed me to make friends all over the planet and meet some really great people. It's a pretty amazing thing. BS: I can see through Flickr that you painted at some interesting spots like an abandoned theatre. How do you discover those places, do you keep them secret or do you share them with friends? Host18: I have painted a few very interesting abandoned locations in the past year or so. The photographer FuzzyLogikz has provided some of these spots and she keeps them super secret. ![]() BS: Nowadays graffiti is less underground than it used to be, a lot of writers are taking part in more commercial projects. How do you feel about this evolution? Host18: We all gotta eat. BS: What good and bad things did graffiti bring to your life? Host18: Graffiti is certainly a double-edged sword. You meet some great people and have some amazing experiences. You meet some despicable people and have some terrible experiences. It's the universal graffiti story. BS: What's the funniest memory you recall from painting graffiti? Host18: There are many funny situations I have gotten into but I'll tell you something that happened to a kid I knew a few years ago. This kid got caught taking tags or something; he gets brought down and is waiting to get transferred to bookings. He ends up cuffed to a tranny somehow. The cross dresser keeps complaining to the cops to let "her" go to the bathroom. The cops ignore "her" of course so she starts wilding out and threatens to piss on the floor right there. Still the cops ignore "her". Now all these people are cuffed together at the wrists, so the kid is pleading with the tranny to just chill. Well, the tranny did not just chill, says fuck this and pulls out its dick with the hand that is cuffed to this kids hand and starts peeing. The kid starts weeping. The end. ![]() BS: For those who don't know, what is The Revamp Project about? Host18: The Revamp is a project in which writers are asked to revisit work from the 90's pr earlier. The idea is to take these old pieces and repaint them to the writers current standards. Check it out at graffitiprojects.com BS: Last words, shout-outs? Host18: Graffiti is like my bitch. I fuck it, push it as hard as I can, sometimes it gets mad and will push me back. But I'm aggressive and can't just stand there and let a bitch push me, but sometimes I wanna take a nap, so I do that. If the bitch don't make me a sandwich Ima have to apply a fat jiff to the situation, what she gonna do then? Thanks to the internet I am now bored of pornography. I'd like to say hello to my friends at the DYM Crew. All my other friends and loose acquaintances. Peace to some people that I don't even know but are probably cool people and do cool things, that's cool of them. Come see all the hype at hosteighteen.com Ok bye! ![]()
