read this from castanet.. found it quite comical Clean it up! To the editor: Each morning on my drive to work, I enjoy the scenery of the mountains, trees and children walking to school. What a privilege to live in the beautiful city of Kelowna! I’m shocked that in a time when we value respect for the planet and have so many news articles written about our need for environmental stewardship that we forget the small details in our own city. The issue I’m referring to is the amount of graffiti in the city. In particular, in my drive north on Gordon each morning, I see the words “Welcome to the hood motherfcker” sprayed on a nicely stained fence right beside Dorothea Walker Elementary School. These lovely words have been on this fence for at least six weeks. Why wasn’t this offensive graffiti removed the morning it was discovered? Hundreds of children and parents have had to walk countless times past these ugly words, yet here we are weeks later with this message still defacing the beauty of the neighbourhood, never mind the beauty of the children’s minds. According to the head of Kelowna’s graffiti task force, “the best way to deal with vandalism once it has happened is to get out there and clean it up as quickly as possible. The longer it‘s out there, the more recognition, notoriety you are giving the vandals” (The Daily Courier, May 14, 2008). Why is this message being allowed to continue to be broadcast? Get that graffiti removed! S. Campbell - Kelowna
