Monikers are throwbacks to the days of tramping the rails and can still be found in the tramping and rail graffiti subcultures. Beginning of last century homeless traveling laborers hitched rides in boxcars. They were called tramps. Sometimes a tramp would mark a car he rode in with his moniker, usually a drawing and his nickname, along with the month and year. Today monikers can still be found on boxcars, but these are new monikers of railfans, artists, writers, and the like. There are many well known monikers, such as Lil' Herby, Colossus of Roads, Bozo Texino, Whistle Blower, Corkscrew Johnny Not all moniker writers ride the rails.
yo man thats funny cuz i just came up with a freight moniker after seein a few in photos and shit...i like the idea, it's like writing "i was here" but much sicker! mine is a house of cards..be on the lookout! ill get flicks soon...
i decided to get into in mainly because i know i'm not going to be making stickers forever. down the road i plan on doing a lot of backpacking, and possibly some freight hopping, and i will still be throwing up my moniker.
