I see it all the time. Toys come to the forums searching for an answer as to why they suck so much ass at tagging. And yet, none of them realize that every experienced writer with a brain and a half decent tag will tell them each the exact same thing a thousand times. So here we are, with me telling you toys the same thing for the 1000th time. Does your tag look something like this? You think you're hot shit because you added random ass squiggles to letters. Yet it doesnt look quite right, does it. Its because this tag is WAY too much for your skill level, and it shows. So what, exactly, would someone say when you post this shit asking for crits? START SIMPLE (for the sake of my own sanity, i didnt add any underlines or do dads here and there. Stay away from that shit when you first start) So lets go on and fix this up a bit. Whew, thats already looking better. And what did we do to it? Nothing, I just wrote some letters with a bit of space between them. But this doesnt quite have that sexy flavor to it yet. Thats ok, we have to know the rules before we can break them. Not too much of a change beyond closing the gap between the letters. Not every letter needs to be inside of each other. Snuggle them up next to each other, but give them some space to do their thing. aw shit, whats going on now? Well, we switched to the flat side of a nice chisel tip sharpie. Some varying line thickness gives a nice contrast on the curves, and makes your tag fit the space a bit better. ITS STILL LEGIBLE THOUGH, AND LOOK, NO ADDED UNDERLINES OR OTHER BULLSHIT! If you can nail a nice, simple letter flow, it will suffice as a good enough tag. Notice how I have a slight slant to my letters as well. Ok, FINALLY we are adding a bit of style in there. ONLY THE FIRST AND THE LAST LETTER HAVE A BIT OF FUNK! We need our tag (for now) to be legible. Adding too much junk in the middle or around your tag will make it look like ass. Remember, baby steps are all we are taking at this point. But, while baby steps are fun, lets just add a few other flourishes to make that tag pop. A simple halo and underline would do just fine, but you can have a little fun with it one you UNDERSTAND HOW YOUR LETTERS WORK AND FLOW TOGETHER. So here we have a nice little chisel tip tag that is legible, and has some nice flow to it. Now you can start rocking out with your cock out. Have fun and stay safe, and remember, cut the bullshit and start SIMPLE. S T A R T S I M P L E

Not a bad idea for a thread. Was going to joke that that tag isn't hip hop enough though! If I can add, I think too many people go for flair where they either don't need it or haven't mastered basics. If you look at some tags by pioneers of this shit, there's some pretty basic to the point stuff, but still quite recognizable/iconic even today. I would probably flick these before some new guy's color burner or even a newer generation's fancy tag. BTW, if you don't know who these people are you seriously need to do your homework.

If you ask me nobody actually "wins" here; or anywhere online (the exception is contest with loot) the places acronym is BS. So apart from the edgelord shit the lesson and the references were actually solid and could probably help a lot of people, me included.
