pigments will dissolve in organic solvents, and maybe its the nib? if you're using those zig types or 15mm kind, they never seem to work for me. your best bet would be nibs like the one on uni paints or k71's. especially the ones worn in. and don't dilute the shellac, from what i think it is.. isn't it from like a tree or something? and is edible? or is it the varnish type?
theres powdered graphite and super fine powdered graphite. if yours isnt the latter i would throw it in a mortor n pestle if you havent already. and slightly thinning the shellac might be a good idea to try idk. The nib could be your problem as well. ive had some pigment flow issues through certain nibs and pigments dont really thicken but think of it this way. if you have a bunch of finely ground dirt. like powder style and you take half and add a bit of water and take the other half and add oil or something of a different consistency the results are totally different in kinda the same thing when suspending pigments. the characteristics of the mixture and the pigments can change alot. Also pigments are little pieces of stuff. while they wont dissolve in most things they can actually absorb liquids and become larger, while you cant see this happen with a bare eye it can in fact happen and also change the flow rate. bleeby blabble
i didnt actually mean pigments itself thickening, i meant as a thickening agent. and if i can remember back in chem, pigments dissolve in organic solvents, and can altar the consistency/opacity/amount/etc. of whatever you put it in, depending on the pigment and substance.
nah pigments def do not dissolve in organic solvents. in fact ethanol and isopropanoil are organic solvents, but they do not break apart when they go into the solvent. like salt crystals and crystal form stainers will dissolve, but if you have a chunk of pigment it will not dissolve in a solvent. if it did, then i wouldnt have the problem of the particles being too big, becasue then they woul just dissolve to the right size. anyways, i dotn think they can absorb shit either? how does straight carbon absorb anything? and yea it might be the nib, ive had troubles in the past wiht it too. and yea shellac is a resin from a tree, i dont think its edible, and yea its a varnish/ i bought the umber colroed type so it already has soem color, but not much. and i know thats not the problem, because shellac is used in some india inks and other pigmented inks, and they dont have a problem flowign through shit
india ink is mass produce in factories, and probably have some hi-tech machine to make it finely grained. what size is the generals brand pigment? it should say it on the bottle
i peice of burnt wood can absorb water and become wet. lol idk man most the shit you get into is over my head. just my 2 cents. i would try out a different nib then.
lol yeah woods not pure carbon, liek a nib, it has lil air holes, and alot of tree shit that can absorb water, hence how trees live, they liek suck up water, and my jar of carbon doesnt say shit on it, just says pure powdered graphite [Broken External Image]:http://www.plazaart.com/images/11605/970PG_gp.jpg
shellac is used to wax some fruits, so it is edible. Ive found from past experimentation its best to find clear shellac flakes as they do not colour the pigment at all when suspended, and no you do not need a very strong shellac solution. In other news you people shouldnt be talking about this shit on a public forum so every little toy now goes and tries to make pigmented ink... ahhh welll Chrome Overkill Ink coming soon will be compatible to mix with other Overkill Inks to make unique colours. Peace! Cormac
oh shit!! i learned some much shit on this page it almost killed my high...fuck... the carbon i got was pretty rocky so i put it all in a bag and pounded the fuck outa it w a hammer but it still kinda rocky...thinkin on gettin a coffee grinder to grind it down some more...wat kinda shit do i use to suspend it????dont understand that part...
pretty much im going to sound like a cynical prick, but dont try it unless youve put effort into research and figuring it out, im sick of people just expecting to get the answers they want when people like me have put years of experimentation and research into this stuff
fuck u bitch...i been on the web...i been puttin in work....i BEEN doin research....u wanna see the lab???i been fuckin w dye inks for a good minute now and im tryin to step the game up and see wat other shit i can come up with...just cuz i ask some fuckin ? bout suspending some pigs and u talk shit to someone u dont even know???isnt this wat the fuck the forum is for??its called INK DISSCUSSION THREAD for a reason and the reason is to talk ink with other ink heads to gain knowledge...puttin effort to learn....douche
haha warned you i was going to come off as a prick, thing is i get asked so many times a day about mixes from people who know nothing expecting to just be able to learn in a min, im not saying you dont know anything btw. Thing is i learnt everything by reading and experimenting and now days its just a joke. If you want to suspend pigments though, make sure you get good quality supplies id suggest ordering them in bulk as its pricey. oh and "fuck u bitch...i been on the web" get off the web and ask people who own art stores and such about suspending pigments if you want to learn more, you cant learn everything on the internet. if you want a simple pigmented ink try using pva glue to suspend pigments. Disolve the glue into denatured alcohol and add in your pigment, simple and effective.
true dat.....this thread should just be so that the toys can learn the basics and get help on the basics, the rest they can do on their own...
would a silver alcohol based ink suspended with shellac be easier to make? since metallic pigments are usually mad small anyways?
uhm just curious. have you tried running the shelac ALONE straight through the marker? like u kno. proccess of elimination. if the shellac alone doesnt work then its the shelac not the pigment u kno? i dunno. just sayin haha. and ive mixed metallic pearlex into grime. everything stays suspended. tis a calloid. but i kno nothing of makin ink from scratch.
were u guys find pigments in ur town? my Michels doesn't have shit. and im not to sure were els to look. i order them online, but i hate waiting for shit to arive ya no, any one got sum recommendations?
yea my art store doesnt have any either, i only found that graphite shit at this art store when i was away
haha my areas finally getting a hobby lobby but it isnt open yet, ive checked out art stores in my area but none of them carry shit, and alot of them r goin out of business. bounty that payment go threw yet?
