Chasing mass appeal is a waste of time and if that is what you care about, then it seems to me like you are doing graff just to try and be cool. Lame.[/QUOTE] I don't condone recycling old cartoony ideas either, but I can see where they are coming from. A normal person on the street sees a slap. If the slap says just a name, it's rarely going to be remembered. But if the slap is a character, even just a simple cartoony one, it'll stick in said person's mind more. Therefore, more and more people will recognize your work, increasing your ups. /My 2 cents.
^ i agree also, usually when someone puts a shitty marker drawn piece on a 228 its a stupid toy who can't paint so they think if they put their stuff on stickers it looks better. I see it all too often in random stickers included in packs
i do know theyre names, like blu and banksy, but out of all the people that know them, only like 1/4 of the people would know him if he only wrote his name. street art is supposed to appeal to the public to get the message across, in my opinion.
ahhhhhhh i cant upload any new flicks cause my flickr pro account expired!!!!!!!so im going to sell some paintings to get it back.....or if anyone wants to buy my pro account for me..(25$)..ill send you a painting.
I got packs from GREATSOUTHERNTRENDKILL good stuff man love it and got a pack from BINK its fresh too I have been lucky andgot some good quality shit lately in packs.Keep it up guys.
alright guys i have a problem and i need everyones help and i mean EVERYONE that other sticker artist germ from europe i believe just contacted me on flickr he wants me to change my name he said that snub linked him to my page and i have no idea what to do
ya i guess that sounds like the right thing to do :/ ill probably just change it to doctor. gerz ahhhh im just so pissed this had to happen like the one name i really enjoy writing that i wanted to stick with damn like i saw his stuff before on a streetart website i just didnt think id ever get noticed by anyone
^^^ Him. Don't give up just yet. Name doesn't really matter unless it's someone that really reps that name and not their "symbol", like if I wanted to change my name to Nekst, that'd be an insult.
ya might as well this is the comment he left me Yeah, and you're name kinda reminds me of... well me. and then he sent me a somewhat rude pm about it
I kind of see what you guys are saying but I don't make stickers for the average public people to see and like. I make stickers for other street artists and graffiti writers to notice and hopefully respect.
But can't there be some sort of happy medium? You shouldn't be automatically biased against each new 'cartoony' character you see... some are better than others, don't dismiss them all.
I base what I like off of who I see that understands what they are doing and has put time in. Your character is a square with semi-circular teeth and eyes. I do not see that as original or appealing just because you vectorized it and put it on vinyl. I don't dismiss every one I see. I like Catv and Dave because they are active and have been producing stickers for a long time. Also, what they make is a style choice. I am positive Dave or Ceito could make much more complex or flashy characters, but choose the simple style and approach. Your characters are the best you can do, no?
Are they? Maybe? If they are then it doesn't bother me because I still like what I have; it actually looks like a character unless you go out of your way to break it down into shapes like you are, to find something wrong with it. I can't really help that I haven't been making stickers for as long as Dave and Catv, everyone needs to start somewhere.

in all honestly, lets lose this stupid bullshit on the defining terms of stickers and the graff game in general. to me at least, true graffiti rest on the foundation of "go fuck yourself" what drew me to graff in the first place was the fact that it was a world of no rules or definitions. And unfortunately the more u learn about and do anything graff related that freshness and pure feel becomes lost. i might just be talking shit, but all i can say to u guys with any doubts is pick ur battles, run that shit hard, and fuck anyone who tells u to stop.
