zof made many good calls. i have personal belief that a cruise ship is the best option for survival, particularly one with a crew and abundant in wimmen. however, it is uncommon that you would have a cruise ship on hand during the event of an actual zombie apocalypse. Many of you are talking about what you would do when it started.

You need to be prepared before they even get started. Find local riot shelters and such. I have a friend who had the roof of his father's hardware store turned into a riot shelter, with a legitimate helipad and everything. He actually had that created for... you guessed it. Zombies. You can't fuck around people.
as far as weapons go, something that requires ammo is already a lesser choice, but melee weapons require physical strength and endurance, so get off your fucking computer and start working out. i personally like doing pushups. a lot of them.

acceptalbe weapons with ammo: (use hollow points)
generally anything over .38
semi auto is usually better (ammo conservation), but if you can switch from semi to full that's optimal.
Chainsaw- gas is ammo. no argumets

acceptable melee weapons:
cro-bar
any type of sword, generally better to have a double edged blade.
mostly anything longer than 3 feet should be usable.

SPEARS ARE BAD. they are long, attack a single enemy, you must be accurate and unless you have training in spear use, the chances of you being able to handle one well enough to fend off creatures of the undead is unlikely.

practicing martial arts is encouraged, as it should increase reaction speed, and the ability to defend yourself without a weapon.

If you plan on holding up in your own home, then you have shit for brains, as zof declared earlier. but if this is what you have your mind set on, buy a generator.

i have in the works, plans for my own cement shelter. regadless to the fact that i need a location to build it, the plans of this thing are badass.

Zof what are your views on underground shelters, as opposed to ones on regular land level. im talking stocked with canned foods, astronaut ice-cream, and lunchables, so food wouldnt be an issue really. id have air ventilation and... ahh fuck it, ill scan in the plans when i get to it.

Oil Rigs are one of the safest places a person can be during a Zombie outbreak. Zombies cannot climb, nor can they swim. Unless they are in late stages of decay, when Zombies attempt to enter water, they will immediately sink. In later stages of decay, Zombie’s bodies can actually “inflate” with air, which can cause Zombies to float at the surface of the water. However, when you’re hundreds of feet above the water Zombies are no threat to you.

A strong enough storm can tear the platform of your Oil Rig apart and blow you into the Gulf. However, for many people, this is a risk worth taking.

And what about a prison?
High security cells to lock into
Or if prisoners are still alive to keep into depending.
Towers for sniping and long range
Barbed wire fences helicopter
Guns and full body riot gear
many containment areas where if zombies penetrated the first layer they ccould be stopped at another area of the prison.

good thinking with both oil rig and prison. i had another thought after writing my segment. chainmail. those fuckers cant bite through that shit, they're just people after all. if the proper measures are taken it shouldn't be neccesary, but it could save your life.

 

i thought briefly about using urban sewer systems as a shelter or mode of transportation, but then realized that upon exiting, you would have a high probability of popping up in an intersection surrounded by zombies.

A prison is a really really good idea.
The yard might be able to be converted into a farm to grow food, and there would be plenty of secure vehicles on site that could be used to make supply runs or sweeps through the surrounding area to eradicate wandering zombies.
I think a prison would be an ideal solution for a large Ark-type fortress to house and protect any uninfected people. Lots of room, lots of security.
Possibly the pinnacle choice for a defensive base.

 

I'm tellin' you, head somewhere the zombies couldn't get to. If they're mindless flesh-eating psychopaths, treat them like anything else that would maul you on site.
An island would be ideal, surely they can't swim. Or just hijack some type of life-sustainable watercraft, like a sailboat, and enjoy a life at sea. Port it when you need to make a break for supplies.
Find your way to a cabin in the frozen tundra. Or just move to an area where there were no people to begin with.
Like fucking ANYWHERE in Texas. Have you ever been through that state? It's a fucking wasteland. Remember, in order for there to be zombies, there had to be people there first. So get as far away from the people/civilization as you can, and set up fort.

 

Howabout combining two of the best ideas in this thread, and find a prison, ON AN ISLAND. Plus, if you choose something no longer in use, like Alcatraz, you don't have to deal with emptying it of all the inmates.

I was thinking Alcatraz, but realistically, the place probably isn't the best spot to set up base. I mean god knows it isn't going to be THAT secure anymore, as far as prisons go, the shit's falling apart.

Do you guys think that you would be able to kill an infected family member?
If you gather survivors would you create a democracy or totalitarian? Also could you trust these people?
Is destroying the brain the only way to kill a zombie? Could you sever their spine to stop them?
Do people turn into zombies through viral, bacterial, or supernatural means?
Just a few questions, wanting peoples opinions. I feel though that if an infection happened that it would be contained pretty quickly because of the need for close contact. Although the government may plan a mass containment, grounding all flights, isolating infected cities etc.
