I would HIGHLY HIGHLY avoid painting freights in DC. That entire area is crawling with security. I've heard the police literally escort trains through there, I can only imagine how bad the yards around there would be.

Painting freight trains behind factories is alot diffrent then yards, Ive been around alot of factories with 7-8 trains behind them, Some of them never move for months, Always scope out your spot and research it befor you paint it. Things will go alot more smoother that way.

Heres a website of all the train lingo for all that are confused,
    http://oldunclecrow.wordpress.com/2009/08/31/a-glossary-of-train-lingo/

Made a trip to my first yard today to scope things out and the place looks pretty locked down, Can anyone give me tips on just benching frights? Should i just post up at the mouth of the yard and just wait for the lines to pull out or is there a train shedual I could find somewhere, any help is great.

I live right next to a yard with no fences. The tracks go behind my house, and I've snuck in several times [not to paint]. There's a hobo village laid up under the bridge by the yard, and a couple dope peices on it. But I don't know about security!!! And where the hell am I going to find other writers, anyway? [don't answer that.] What I'm getting at is, am I going to get caught, or should I just keep jumping on slowed down trains? [Gotta consdier wind, if you do that] And if I tell you where I live, is there some cop on this site trying to bust me? Maybe by some miracle there's a local writer around.... There's actually many here, but all the graff is hidden under bridges by creeks and shit....

train hopping to the next stop hope its to a deader yard. jump off paint it .. jump back on the next night when they move.. im sure it would be sketchy but im sure its fun to train hop if u know where ur going haha...

heres some tips in a yard.. ive done some mistakes and learned from them so heres a few

    dont tag every train.
dont paint the numbers. thats like u going and spraying ur licence plate on ur car.
dont fuckin leave ur garbage. bring it all with you when you leave or whip the shit in the bush as far as u can. in my case i have to bring it back to the car.
    dont sidebust.
dont paint trains during the day if ur a toy.
dont cap others .. unless otherwise.
dont tag surrounding areas around the yard.. kinda did that back in the day n got shitted on by the bigger dudes that use the yard in my hood.
go big and always fill properly.
and dont get caught. if security finds u run the fuck outta there the fastest u possibly can.

dude...don't jump on moving trains, you don't know what could happen. wait until night when the yard in inactive when you can paint the trains, although i wouldn't even recommend that seeing that you live RIGHT NEXT to a yard..just find a chill layup somewhere further from your house.
