Biters / Inspired (Bites?) Everyone is inspired by other artists's work. What you take from it and make your own hones in on your own and unique style. You'll hear a lot often then usual that a graff artist's style looks similar to another person's style but put a twist on it to make it their own. That is usually acceptable but the more original artist will probably prevail. There are times though that an inspired artist will win as his/her technique was an amazing piece of work. It's a question of whether inspiration is biting? It is in sorts as you're taking a piece of what you saw from another artist's work and incorporating it into yours. As long as you credit the artists or pay homage to an artist, it is OK. I'm and old schooler who started off when there were only a handful of OG artists like SEEN, DONDI, ZEPHYR, and DOSE (Rock Steady Crew). Everyone back then bit DOSE's RSC characters as it was the base back then of drawing graffiti BBOYS. We used that base to create our own characters. Biting was frowned upon then as it is now. Everyone to the present day does the Vaughn Bode characters but it's an homage to the original artist and sets a reference of where graff first began. We did it to get our style started as it was graff in it's infancy and wasn't so mainstream as it is today. But we never battled someone using an exact copy. That would be shameless act of disrespect for the art. Especially if it was a font. What you did is no different from having a coloring book drawing and using your crayons to fill it in and then saying I drew this. The art was still drawn originally from another artist. And having it pointed out by your peers is pretty sad. Perhaps we're being to hard on you. Probably if it was in the latter years of graff when there was no internet and the only way we could communicate with one another was through letters no one would give you such a hard critique. But it is what it is and so many people can search for something that they thought they had seen that looks like the work you entered. Then they'll point out your error because proof is so easy to come by in this day an age of computers and the internet. It's a lot tougher to fool this online crowd so it's best to have a little more integrity and tact and just enter your best piece in your OWN or INSPIRED style. People can then only critique you of how you can better your style instead of hanging you from the rafters and touting that you're a BITER.

When you battle its about YOUR skill and YOUR letters, that's what you are judge on, when you copy a font and only change it by putting a sword and a background nothing in it makes it "yours". We all are influenced by something or someone, you cant deny that. But in the end you cant just chomp chew and spit you gotta digest that shit and shit it outt its gotta come from you.
