Go when there isn't anyone there. You're probably not going to find much beside empty cans of floor marking paint, lumber crayons, and inexpensive tools. All the expensive tools get locked up or go in their cars when they leave. Stay out of the dumpster at a construction site, you're most likely going to find nothing but trash. Dumpster dive behind places that you would imagine would have very little trash besides plastic and cardboard, and that's where you'll actually find things worth diving for.

Probably not THAT night.... Well maybe. Depends on the size of the store. Unless the heard the cans rattling around in the bag.. You should try it, and post how that works out for you

Dumster diving can pay off, but it depends on location and luck. Best things I've found: unused shirts ( packaged!) and unused cologne. Homie once found a gold ring ( in the fricking thrash). So yeah, have some luck.

2mor, Is dumpster diving stealing?? If hobos do it it's legal, but if writers do it it ain't?? I don't think that dumpster diving is illegal in any sence of the term... Iv found some pretty cool shit in the dumpster; never found any cans or anything but, I have found some electronics and stuff. As euro said, it's all about luck.

hell ya, i agree. dumspter diving isnt a guranteed way to get you good shit, cept maybe smelling nasty and an infection or two. rack everything. and if you cant rack it at least try, if you fail... THEN you can shell out cash to pay for it.

one time the krogers by my house blew a circuit or something and their freezers broke. so they had to throw out all their frozen foods. im a vegan and i got 600 bucks worth of vegan meat substitutes for free. still frozen and just sitting in a big ass dumpster with nothing but frozen, still in the box, food. happy day.

    Yes, but it shouldn't be.

The person threw out whatever it was into a dumpster as trash.
That's, like, "I no longer want this. Here. Have it."

The only difference being is it's in a dumpster.

I've rescued many terrific items from dumpsters, but never food. If I came across edible food I would have no problem taking it home though.
