graffiti to me isn't so much hiphop anymore. In Ontario it seems like most people who write are just like hippie/emo ppl. There is still quite a few who big into the hiphop scene though. In todays age I really don't think Graff is related to one type of group. It's really opened up to anyone who wants to express something or themselves

Graffiti has nothing to do with any type of music.. I have met a handful of writers and none of them are even into hip hop.. in fact most writers i know think its hip hop is gay and I kinda agree with them (with the exception of some underground shit)

Graffiti is nothing more than writing on walls, and music doesnt have anything to do with that.

 

As long as I have nas "it was written" on my play list .. Graffiti an hip hop are still together

 

I used to listen to mostly punk, however hip hop is a part of hip hop culture. This includes djing, emceeing, djing, graffiti etc.

 

It is fucking not. The truth is bad, but many writers are a fucking gays with tight pants and with piercings and I hate those NY hats that every1 is wearing. WE MUST BRING BACK THE HIP HOP! WATCH POSITIVITY FROM GANG STARR AND BRING TEARS

I didn't know graffiti was about fashion.... why do you care what clothing someone else chooses to wear? who says they don't already listen to gangstarr and understand it in just the same way you do Hip-Hop master?


P.s. I don't wear tight pants, have any piercings or own a single new era hat.

There is a mix of culture today. Graff will awlays be part of hip hop culture.

 

I think the question could be answered in two ways: whether graffiti started getting big through hip hop, or whether graffiti is simply an element that may or may not be associated with hip hop.

To the first, I'd say that punk started it, and hip hop is what got it some major media attention, but for both cultures, graffiti was only one element of a much more broad social group. Graffiti as a culture itself seems to be a little newer, especially with the dawn of the internet and all sorts of indie documentary BS people like to come up with. Then everything changed when the "street artists" attacked. God fuck, those guys...
