How does one make/join a crew? How can you find writers to join crew? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of having a crew?
I would like to hear a variety of opinions and advice from toys as well as intermediates and experts; this is a toy forum right?
    ;)

Fellow toy here haha i'm n0t looking to be in a crew, but this is based off what I've learned without being directly told (sometimes info comes about that way).
-If its you and a few buddies fck'n around w/paint, u can probably call that a 'crew;' but if you're talking about j0ining an already established crew- the kind with the 3-letter crew name and the wall-pieces w/ everyone's name tagged on the side, don't go lookin for them, THEY will bring you in. And when they do, its after they've seen your work grow into something they don't hate being affiliated with. I suppose it helps to actually know one of the members, but that's another thread.
-Having an experienced writer to learn under is the way some ppl find their way into those kinds of crews, where there are multiple writers to learn from (that 'inexperience' is the reason why those type of crews probably will not take a homegrown crew seriously). when you post something on here and get crits about it, go ahead and mAke that adjustment-- its the best way to improve your shit without 'learning' under a writer or wasting paint/walls.

Most importantly make sure theyrr not snitches and you have eachothers backs. Cause thats your freedom you risking when you let other *****z know you paint, it has to be someone you trust.

Sup man, I write in jerz and I'll give you my perspective on crews and real life examples from the crews in New Jersey.

First off let me preface with this, it can be either extremely hard to join a crew, or really easy. It all depends on what the crew is looking for. For example, you might be the illest bomber in the area, or piece your ass off, but if the crew doesn't like you as an individual or has a negative preconceived notion about you, good luck joining. On the other hand, you can be a pretty mediocre writer but if they like you for whatever reason, "Hey Man, Rep our Shit!".

For the most part though, you will have to put in a certain amount of work for any crew to even be interested in you. And on top of that, you have to fit in socially, as I stated before. Often times members are recruited at art functions or graffiti meetups, such as black book events or hip hop events. Some crew members went to school together, some just met up via social media... There are endless possibilities for how you can meet up with a crew and join their organization.

I tell anybody starting off with graffiti, go out and paint and do shit the right way. After bombing by yourself for a while you'll realize you don't need any fucking crew, and that you are the only person you can rely on. You can maneuver easier, and every decision you make is your decision.

With that being said, a crew does have benefits. You have somebody to motivate you, and you're more likely to go out if you have crew members hitting your phone up asking to go bomb... also you have somebody to look you out if you're in a rough neighborhood. Sometimes your crew members might be from a completely different area then you, and they can offer you knowledge and protection in that specific area.

The best crew is the one you make yourself in my opinion. Not joining another squad, but rather organically growing your own social circle, and making sure you guys are in sync on a friendship level first and foremost.

Most of the crews in jersey are spanish and black dudes, and if you're white you better be going super hard for anybody to even take you seriously.
