It's not going to mess up your life forever at 16 unless you do some world class damage but still... guess anyone could get arrested at 16 for this shit, but at the same time, the point is to not get arrested, to be smarter/slicker than that. You either need to be a much better criminal than you are now to do this shit or maybe you need to chill.

 

my way of tagging was really reckless so if i do make a return ill be much more careful when i tag but like im just worried of getting locked up again and shit

That's a possible consequence. Now that you know what it's like you have to decide if you're willing to face that again. It's quite possible, especially in a place like NYC where people are everywhere all times of day plus cameras, VS, etc.

broad day light im doing a throwie like an idiot and i was really dumb with it. now i know if i ever go back out there , theres a couple of things im doing different for sure.

 

You said you're a toy, only have written for a couple months. You got arrested, the good thing is you're 16. If it's your first offense they'll probably give you probation and seal your record. Worst case is you go to jail for vandalism. You didn't murder anyone, you didn't harm anyone physically or even steal. You put paint on a wall. Your life isn't going to be ruined, and that doesn't make you a villain. Understand that. Now my advice to you is do not go all city. Stick to a blackbook and lowkey spots to practice painting. Spots like under bridges, side of freeways, shit like that where lots of old/new graffiti is. Practice practice practice. Why? Because you're a toy who hasn't even mastered the basics of graffiti let alone art. Keep the passion for graffiti, but channel it towards sketching in your blackbook and practicing in secret spots. Do this for a year, maybe even 2. Going all city doesn't automatically make you a good writer. Don't catch a tag anywhere in public for the next 2 years. Do all your tagging, throwups, peices, etc. in a blackbook or in a secret lowkey spot. Then when you're older, more knowledgable and experienced you can make the choice to continue writting with an understanding of the risks, what you're gaining out of it, and everything else. Another thing to remember, you only get caught when you're caught. Don't tell anyone you write graffiti, the less people who know the better. Make sure no people are around when you do it, that way there's no one around to arrest you. Me and you basically got into the same situation, except I got caught on my birthday when I turned 17 lol. We were reckless, getting up during the daytime. That's a big no-no unless you truly do not give a fuck about being caught. When you do start tagging in public again, do it at night. Way easier to not get caught.

what borough? everytime I went bombing in the city it was at night with guys who knew the neighborhoods and graff spots. seems like if you're bombing during the daytime...that's not too smart. Go out at night, be familiar with the spot/neighborhood and go out with a buddy who can look out for you and have your back. ...and most of all listen to your father.

Honestly bro I wouldn't even sweat getting caught up for simple tags and throws at your age in new york. Just never plead guilty and don't admit you did it; say nothing to the police and try and force them to properly charge you with it. Here is the thing... In a place like New York city the amount of money it takes to prosecute you and prove that you did what they're saying you did in court basically outweighs the damage you did; they have plenty of actual crime to deal with. In the future if you're about to get busted toss your fucking cans and don't say shit. Right in the beginning of the exchange ask if you can leave (if they say no you're under arrest) if they don't explicitly say no then say you're leaving or need to be somewhere. If they accuse you of anything say it's circumstantial and you don't do shit like that and ask if you can leave again. If they ask to search you say no, if they ask to search your bag say no; they want probable cause and you want plausible deniability.

Unless you seriously fucked some shit up the judge isn't going to twiddle with his dick about it, they don't give a fuck about vandals there unless you blew whole blocks or train cars up.

There are so many spots to get up in New York where nobody busts your balls I envy you. Nasty is right rock a blackbook and chill spots while you're getting your education.

NGL i gotta agree with gum on this one. If youre only 16 and already got arrested, especially if youre a city where its pretty easy to get away with shit... Id say change your name and maybe focus more on understanding what exactly youre doing
