Word. See what's happened is you've got cats with no originality who study and copy so much that it becomes the norm. Example of what I mean: in the early 90s when I first got into writing, you had crews like FX, TATS & SUK that started putting "rules" to art in their pieces which at that time really elevated the game. Graff before that didn't follow rules so to say, making it more raw and personal based on the person doing the pieces own style and creativity. Nowadays it's more so if you not following certain rules your pieces aint right or toy or whatever shit folks say today. To be real, a lot of artists today are just that, artists who study and learn graffiti. Writers didn't have classes and lessons to follow, you learned on the street and if your shit was wack you buffed straight up. The other writers you were around helped you grow in style and get better. Most youngsters today won't ever know about that. Times and conditions are different now and the saddest part is its no longer about self expression, it's about trying to fit into a lifestyle that they don't really know shit about how it came to be
Structure and fundamentals was never apart of graffiti to begin with, it was that lack of structure and fundamentals and going against the rules of art that made it what it was, gaining it the name abstract art once it started hitting mainstream and becoming commercialized. No offense but you cats today worry too much about following the guidelines others set forth and needing their approval. Me personally, I've liked your style ever since I first saw you on here because I can tell you put a lot into what you do. But like I said to you awhile back, do this here for you son, because you love it, not for nobody else. I had one dude on here a couple of months ago tell me a piece I did looked too much like a famous graffiti artist's style or some shit like that ( I want to say RISK's style) ... that same piece my wife looked at (just happened to be looking through my blackbooks lol) & said to me that its crazy how my style hasn't changed in almost 18 years that we've been together. My homeboy showed my wife a piece I did for him in like 95 when we were in high school and said my style has always been the same and that I don't need to improve on perfection. I am by no means perfect and see way more people's pieces that are nicer than mine. I ain't a biter either, not respect that at all. I do what I do for me to have fun and enjoyment doing it regardless of others opinions, feel me. Continue to do you, and fuck them niggas give you shit over fundamentals and all that shit. Write what looks good to you. Just keep in mind when you bashing other niggas, they seeing you the same way you seen them dudes bashing your shit.
@keepsicks we need a new word homie, you got 24 hours to make one if not, @ElbowMacK187 will choose one.
I wasnt even gonna feed the trolls but this sums it all up pretty well!! Much respect for you and a true understanding of the origination and innovation of Graff.
