With Walmart, if your lucky enough that it's not locked up, it's a get in get out thing because the only blind spots they have face the main walkway so everyone sees you. Cover your face, fill a bag, skefuckingdaddle. Anywhere else is pretty easy if you can pull off Walmart. If it's not real hot you shold always buy something so you can walk out legit.

Go by yourself. Go in behind a sketchy looking group of people and that way if they are watching the door when you are entering they will profile the people in front of you and and watch them walk around the store instead of you. At the very least make sure there are other suspicious looking people walking around the store to increase your chances of success.

Stash a new backpack near your target merch behind some other products in an isle and go back in an hour and that will give you some indication if they are watching or not based on if the backpack is still where you put it. That can also give you a little confidence boost. Fill up the backpack and be prepared to drop it in the store if it looks like they are on you and there will be nothing to tie you to the backpack and they will not try to stop you from leaving. Also if your using this method you can generally just fill it up in front of most customers without a problem which is often better than hanging around trying to be sneaky. Also you get a new backpack which can be helpful in other situations.

Depending on where you live some places won't even stop you now and instead will focus on providing law enforcement with video or other evidence to help them build cases against serial boosters which may be you if you are making a habit out of shoplifting. Then they show up to your door one day and take you to jail and charge you with some type of conspiracy charge that can potentially send you to prison.
If you live in a medium sized town then they probably have a squad of detectives dedicated to this purpose.

Wear a non descript outfit, something that can't be easily identified. With COVID, you can wear a face mask helping hide your face. Do a recon of your target area. Most stores have loss prevention agents, easily identifiable by their uniforms and radios, or plain clothes that wander around "not shopping".
I don't know where you are at, but in my state loss prevention agents are not allowed to stop people leaving the store. They can ask you to stay, but they cannot hold you. So if you run they won't chase you. But they could get your car tag. All that will do is put you on their list to keep an eye out for later. There is so much theft from stores that most cops won't go looking for you unless you swipe a big ticket item or have racked up a couple hundred dollars worth.
An easy target is Lowes or Home Depot. During high traffic times. They don't lock up the paint and there is a lot of people moving around. Its easier at the self check out. Grab a dozen cans or so and only scan about half.
Besides, they are both the best places to pick up Kilz cans.

My Walmart doesn't lock up Kilz. They littterally have cases of it sitting out next to the locked up spray paint. I just get maybe 8 cans from there and another 10 color and black tall cans from the hardwear store across the street. Or I'll do it the opposite way around and get my hardwear store cans and store them in the walmart lockers while I get what I need from Walmart. The whole area is small and pretty high security. Everyone knows each other there, so once I got what I need I'll grab a musubi from the gas station and take the bus to the opposite side of town.

If the security things go of just act confused and walk out. And don’t run cuz then they would know that you stole something. I’ve racked some whiteouts and pens at Walgreens , and my dumb friend pocketed some glasses with a tag on them. The beepers where loud asf when we walked out
