    My letter

I just read Robert Marshall's very opinionated article on the current mural being done at the gas station theatre. He goes on about what Bleak saidt "I've already been around for a quarter-century," read the entry on the CBC website. It went on, "... and I don't feel like a punk or a street kid or anything." Then the individual identified only as Bleak said, "I'm doing legitimate artwork." and then says "Uh-huh. Like the squeegee kid who provides a legitimate service" .

This is just as comparable as saying Robert himself being a police officer as being a member of the SS Gestapo during the second world war, as they were both in essence police officers of a certain kind. This kind of rhetoric can't be taken seriously, like if your going to be painting everything with the same brush then how is it any different? Of course its offensive to say such a thing and i purposely put it that way, as both comparisons are just assinine.

Graffiti has been an issue for many years and not just for Winnipeg, but across major urban areas across Canada, North America, Europe and the rest of the world. winnipeg isn't special, we can't put ourselves in a bubble and pretend we are special. Here's a headline.... we're not! And at the same time you keep in mind that there's different kind of graffiti, just as you would think a former cop who has been on the job for 27 years ( doing who knows what?... i guess those parking meters do have to be regulated by someone) should realize ( although personal experience hasn't always dictated so) that there are different kinds of laws that can be broken. If you've taken a drive around the city i'm sure you would have noticed those OWL HOME INSPECTIONS signs, here we have a legitimate business using graffiti tactics to advertise for themselves. I guess okay apparently because they were printing with a nice friendly font, yet placed on CN property , city property etc... are we to assume that the city and CN is actually providing advertising space for these guys, somehow i find that highly unlikely.

there's also a large problem with with the citys core areas in terms of graffiti, that can't be denied and looked the other way at. BUT that graffiti isn't the same graffiti as the people who are painting murals and trains and giving some effort into their work. its usually underage kids associated with gangs, and really is an indication of a larger social issue relating to their home life and economic class. and the graffiti is just an easy scapegoat as opposed to looking at the real issue at hand. its not something that a fresh coat of paint will fix. there's plenty more to that and i would hope you know that as well.

Then there's the graffiti that i'm a personal favourite of. and personally have been practicing for about a decade now. Which consists of a fairly small group of people in regards to all graffiti that is done throughout the city ( and i'm not trying to legitimize anything here) and some do quite activly do vandalize public property, yet at the same time do have respect for others property. there's a common un-written rule where you just don't fuck with the little man ( pardon my language) you don't go around writing on someone's house, that's just plain and simple stupid, along with churches, or any other personal property ( although at the same time not everyone follows the rules, give me one situation where everyone does?). But a large majority of these people are fully functioning members of society, allot are actually well over the age of 20, and have been and do g oto university or hold a half decent respected job. so to be branding everyone with the same brush isn't really fair..... but i guess when you do put it like that and want to call all cops pigs, i guess its fair game isn't it? even though we both know that isn't true isn't, but then again when you have a person representing themselves in a certain manner with options that do tend to be piggish, thoughts like that do tend to arise.

So you can go an say anyone who writes on anything that isn't theirs is anti-Semitic and hateful ( like really didn't know what to write about, were you going out on a limb here? ) is just absurd. if your able to take very few instances and turn them into a pandemic, that's really another issue all together wouldn't you think? and no before you even think , something like that couldn't and shouldn't ever be condoned regardless of the situation, and the same thing goes with vandalising ( notice how i didn't use the word graffiti) the vimy ridge memorial, as myself was once a member of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, i understand as to how that can be and is offensive, but in reality you look at such instances of vandalism like that and it wasn't a directed target so to say, odds are it was a couple kids with nothing better to do, allot the same as that fellow in Ontario who got caught pissing on a memorial on Canada day, he wasn't making a statement of any kind he just had few too many drinks and needed a place with a corner, till you have some old bitter patriot with nothing better to do come along and blow the whole situation out of proportion. i'm not saying it was wrong, but don't be going around saying something what something is when it clearly isn't and when the real thing does happen, it will be undermined.

But i guess when your in a profession that relies heavily in racial profiling and picking on kids when they don't have anything better to do at a young age. you do start to think that everyone out there can be racist and have that little bit of hate in them. cause in the long run, isn't that what makes it getting through the day that much easier?

    sincerely yours

ps i'm sorry if this response was offensive in any nature but unfortunaly i don't have a means to any sort mass publication, and wasn't able to offend the masses all at once.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
