all hail zer. 204 king of frieghts you young kids should really look at this to really see what a good peice is. we can all see that the style is dope, but if you really examine it its really simple in the fact that there aren't a million add ons and a billion arrows. The fill is one color with only highlights of other colors. the 3d is a drastic contrast with the fill. and the highlights of the 3d are a lighter shade of the green, with just a splash of white to highlight the bars in the 3d. All the lines are crisp. all the angles are cut. And all the letters are roughly the same size. now there is probably no way that you young jacks are going to be able to paint like that in your first 2 or 3 years of painting, but knowing the basics will allow you to progress at a faster rate. making the right choices when you pick your colors, understanding complimentary and contrasting colors, having good flow and form to your letters, keeping the same thickness and style through your letters. all these things are really important. Zer know's what he's going to paint before he paints it. He know what colors are going to go where. he has enough paint to do all the things he wants to do. And if there is one major thing i have learned from him is to have a plan. the first 4 or 5 years I was painting i was always flying by the seat of my pants, constantly changing my mind at the wall. that lead to lots of peices i just as soon forget. but they were learning experiences that made me better. that's not to say that you shouldn't change your mind, but i've found that my favorite peices are the ones i've visualized before i've painted them. as for sketching. Personally i think it's pointless to sketch things you can't paint. you should be sketching with painting in mind. can you paint all those angles? will you have time to cut all those lines? is your can control good enough to get those effects n the fill? all these things are things you should be asking yourself after you are done a sketch and are smoking a joint and are looking at it. by no means am i saying that i know the only way to paint. i'm just saying what works for me and other people i know and respect. ps zer never brings a sketch to the wall. sketches are just there to put the idea in your head. practice for the wall cancer
