I'm planning on trying to make a checkered shirt in the style of the hoodie seen here [Broken External Image]:http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/2/3219160399.jpg and, needless to say, it should prove to be a bit of a challenge. My plan of attack is to somehow procure a large number of uniformly sized, square peices of tape, which I will affix to the shirt in a checkerboard fashion. Then, I will proceed to paint the whole mother fucker black and take the tape off afterwards. I was just wondering if: A: Anyone has a better idea of how to do this and if not B: Where I could get a buncha pieces of tape like that, or will I have to use a paper cutter and card stock and then tape each individual square down...
Go to an office supply store and see if they have anything along the lines of square pricing labels - sorta like circle ones only square. Or perhaps you could just cut up some 228s (if you dont mind using 228s), or some other larger label, with a paper cutter. using labels would be alot easier than tape because then the entire backside is sticky. Also I would advise using fabric paint instead of spraypaint. Spraypaint really doesnt work that well on fabric, and fabric paint will hold up better anyways. Check out some hobby stores or somewhere for the fabric paint. you will have to brush this on though instead of spraying it.
Spray paint on fabric never seems to work well, washes pretty much straight out. Unless you're hard into your DIY shit then just go buy one dude.
ive done spray paint on fabric before and have been pretty satisfied with the outcome. It does kind of fade/wash out to an extent, but it looks alright, it kinda looks cool that way. also, i dont want to do fabic paint cuz im not sure the tape is secured enough to withstand brushing without coming off. i am pretty hardcore DIY, but on top of that, i dont think anything like what i want exists...
