I'd imagine he's using what I am...ipad pro (w/ apple pencil) and procreate. Granted I think you can now use the apple pencil w/ the regular ipad now. There are other folks like Smoe that use an ipad/procreate. Great combo for sure, able to crank out so many more pieces and rework with ease.

Yeah I'm not into it, too many broken pieces that I'm not seeing any letter forms. I'd reduce the amount of blocks.
As for the thick and thin ideas, or rather varying line weight. I'd maybe try out this tutorial.

It says SERCH but the letters aren't really there. It was more about playing with the shapes

Skrit, I dig the style but it feels a little too busy/broken up. Hard to make your letters out, I know you said It was more for playing with shaoe though. Clean lines though, looks good.

This was for the jimbo battle, figured I'd post it here for crits. I can see some things that need work, and the cleanest marker work but I'm not too bothered. Thanks guys.

Keep on experimenting!... But, remember that creating "3D effx" is only as good as your knowledge of light or how light effects shapes... Most of the elite level "3D graff" we see has pretty wonky perspective... This is typically purposely done for aesthetics but, their accomplishment is in the lighting and rendering of the shapes.. Their secondary accomplishments come from composition, color theory and finally... overall draftsmanship... Keep it up!

The only real crit I can give you at this moment are the same ones you gave yourself and more than anything else is the outline... Strong sharp confident outlines change an artwork from being basic and sloppy to just being basic...BUT... Being basic doesnt mean its bad.. Some great urban artist take a very basic approach to their lettering but, apply an additional element which takes their work and puts it on top but, for the masses being basic typically simply means being a novice which is excellent because it just means your only going to get better.. Having that said.... If you begin to good habits now they will only pay dividends in the future... Keep up the good work..

Here are some examples of basic lettering with "additional elements" added and excellent draftsmanship.
