Just wondering what your guys' take on this is. I've been wanting to put up an insta with all my pieces and sketches but still got a little paranoia about it. Is there any realistic risk having it all traced back?
No realistic chance . People deal drugs on ig and get away with it ..usually your biggest worry is self advertisement and the drama that can come with clout
I see, so seeing others get away with shit means that everyone can throw up their criminal activities without consequence? Would like to see you back that logic up. OP, listen, you're asking a question you already know the answer to. Granted, it can appear confusing with so many people doing it, but that doesn't make it smart or a good idea. As many people, including lawyers, have pointed out about social media use, if it was called Help the cops build a case against you, instead of IG, you would never use it or post half the shit you do. But people throw caution to the wind because they see others doing it on IG, FB, etc. Let us also consider that while graf is about getting up and getting seen, it is also a criminal act. As such, it is in your favor to conceal your identity, location, and other personal info as much as possible, at least if you want a long and arrest free graf career. Final thought here, there are definitely some well known writers putting themselves out there but you need to consider that in some cases they have been busted, numerous times, so they may not care about police knowing their identity. Further, they represent that small % of writers that 'make it' and an arrest for them might bolster their street cred, sales of their art, etc. For the other 99% of writers, that is not going to be the case. Still feel like the best way to get seen is the original way- get up.
Well said and I feel ya man. Posting shit is another added level of risk no matter what. just have to approach it in a smart way
Following the original question, what is a smart way to build a community around graffiti online? So far, I use a dedicated IG account successfully for graffiti, and totally separate one for other art. Instagram is easy to switch between accounts. And don't login with Facebook, or connect it to your real Facebook account.
I have social media accounts, but I don't show my face , and I don't flash my walls, I only share walls with people I know. As for ig , fb, tk, grFf is about self promotion, how you do it, is personally a personal thing, I think there are many, looking for a career in graff, or money making , but that is also a personal thing, there are many subculture attributes to graff, and like anything, people just want to be a part of something, be noticed, you can tell who's looking for what, just by the way they promote themselves, me...i say just do your thing, if people like it cool, if they don't, that's cool too.
I have two social media accounts - one is personal, and one is for my work. And yes, I post there from time to time. I created that account for promotion, but for now, I post just for fun, just to share my work with people.
