Need new markers.
Facebook graffiti pages are so wack, I see toys that been writing for a year getting hundreds of likes.
Nice piece. On the "time" I think it's irrelevant. There's people that have been writing alot longer than others that get called out by people who are generations younger. Art is only as good as its audience. Some people like shit, just look in art studios.
Thats a super interesting way of putting it. At first, it seems, like its way off base but, after digesting it for a minute, I get the analogy. Oddly, enough I have these talks with my closest friend who is an art lover and graphic designer. The popularity of some folks and the cash their art fetches is mind boggling. Yes, there is some hatorade being thrown but, it really ticks me off when someone studies art, and puts an enormous amount of time and effort into developing all the skills necessary to produce traditional art and they cant even pay their rent, while other artists will just recycle someone else's character and it fetches for huge money AND the artist doesnt even produce the dang work! Their "interns" make the prints etc..... And dont even get me started on "modern art" aka Ill paint two lines on a canvas and call it "The Parallel Paradox of Mankind"
Haha very true.
What's your thoughts on the poor/homeless guy on the side of the road selling amazing portraits for 5c to buy dinner for himself and dog. He was born with amazing talent and has never even walked into a studio or heard of an"elite" artists name.
Right or wrongly art is unfair for most. I like to go off face value regardless of story. The struggle however and work ethic is also appealing to me.
I dont really have any thoughts on the homeless folks with talent. If I can, Ill support them but, there are a lot of reasons why folks are homeless. I understand your point but, that also could be said for the many people that have born given talent and never develop it for whatever reason.
The face value approach is great, altho, as I soon as I see a recycled character I almost immediately lose interest, unless, there has been a dramatic change in the character's character.
For this week's Bi-Weekly Battle
Yeah but when its a writer who isnt actually any good it baffles me. Regardless I try not to let my ego get the best, because there's always room to improve. But your'e right people do often like shit and its mind boggling.
Funny this comes up, I was actually homeless for a bit due to Covid. I didn't know how to make any money since there was no jobs available. I resorted to busking drawing peoples names, selling previous sketch's, or drawing them as charactures. Rough times they were aha But I always noticed other artist were the most supportive!
Good to hear you got yourself out of that situation and are back on track.
I can't say I've supported many artists, in fact, I've only purchased maybe 5 pieces of art ever but, it's never because it wasn't worth it, it simply was becuz i couldn't afford it. I do have a close friend named Reno Masd aka Dasm Oner who I've purchased items from and have commissioned to do a couple of pieces for me but, to be fair, it was priced to sell. I think part of the issue is that most ppl think art is expensive. Which is great, because there is clear value in it but, the fact is, that many time it isnt and the ironic part is, that if it's cheap, then folks won't think it's worth purchasing. Only hard-core art lovers will understand but, the masses are sheep. That's why ppl like KAWS have made a killing. Now, I'm a fan of Kaws's graff and more abstract stuff but, the shit that fetches big coin, I can't wrap my head around the value there. And I'm not hating on his hustle, he was smart enough to capitalize on something so kudos to him but, I don't get it.
Same thing with NFT
