Group Wants To Restore Marine Stadium
Defunct Venue Condemned After Hurricane Andrew In 1992
MIAMI -- A local organization is trying to drum up support to restore the now-defunct Miami Marine Stadium in Virginia Key.The Friends of Miami Marine Stadium, under the umbrella of Dade Heritage Trust, want to refurbish and reopen the once-active stadium, which was condemned after Hurricane Andrew damaged the venue in 1992. The group has organized a fundraiser for Saturday at the Miami Rowing Club, adjacent to the stadium.Built in 1964, Marine Stadium hosted powerboat races, concerts, presidential appearances and talk shows. Among the events to be held there through the years were concerts by Key West native Jimmy Buffett and Willie Nelson, an appearance by former President Richard Nixon and a live television airing of Phil Donahue interviewing former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo.
In the more than 15 years since it closed, the stadium has been neglected. Although Miami Mayor Manny Diaz talked about renovating the stadium, it remains in a state of disrepair.Citing the demolition of the Miami Orange Bowl as an example, the Friends of Miami Marine Stadium want to make sure that the historic venue doesn't suffer the same fate.
gentlemen please...I know its hard when your out trying to paint trains not to hit the surrounding walls aswell, but you fools are scarring spots..str8 fucking toy shit, writers who frequent yards and lay-ups to paint trains do not see you up and are like oh yeah that dude is fresh....we hate you..and you only put yourself and others at more risk because of your lack of respect or immense amount of cheap tactics for fame used when entering the spot..
I seen it while riding on 95, shit looked like it was huge.
