I started writing at a young age. I was honestly in 4th grade around 1985-86 when I started bombing the lunch tables and stairways behind the school, and of course the bathrooms etc. I remember I used to draw bunk ass stiff letters with little characters as a 4th grader would? lol

It wasn’t really until about 1990 when things started to get real, actually spraying walls and hitting local transportation systems. Gangs were heavy back then so city bombing was tricky at times! That’s a whole other story! Comes with the territory.

I’m from San Diego Ca, and I spent a lot of my youth back and fourth between San Diego and Los Angeles where most of my family lives. I’d say on a local level of inspiration Sake IBM lived in my neighborhood at the time along with some of his crew mates and I would always see their pieces on old abandoned houses in mid late 1980’s as a youngster.

As we got more into the early 1990’s that’s when it was mostly about getting up. All transit lines, all main routes and all major freeway spots, green signs, billboards etc. Back then paint wasn’t as freely accessible so all the paint we came up on was definitely being used on spots.

I was always into pieces, but like I said paint was a little harder to access especially dope colors back in the early 1990’s. I’d say around 1993 and on I started to collect up enough color ways of Krylon, Rusto’s and what ever else I was able to get my hands on at the time and started to lay up pieces.

It was back than, when I met Dyse and Zodak in San Diego. They both had completely different styles and they were both at the top of the game with their styles. Risk and Power from WCA SC Los Angeles had a big influence on me back then as well, and I’d have to say Charlie DTK and pretty much all the DTK guys floating around LA in the early 90’s.

Mid to late 90’s Bates was hands down the dude! I caught some of his pieces in the Bronx New York back then, and his style was definitely ahead of the game! Shit, still is!! He has been a solid inspiration of the definition of a well rounded writer! And i’m glad to call him my friend! Basically the whole idea of never doing the same piece twice, that was Bates’s thing! That stuck with me, and shaped me into who I am today!

As for my style, it’s pretty non traditional. Being that I was never that guy with well balanced structured pieces. Just wasn’t my thing. I always looked at my style as more of a puzzle fitting together as I go, free styling is a good learning tool! Just make it work! That’s how I rolled always, no sketches just sprays. And from that in turn I learned balance and structure somewhat naturally I’d say.

As I’ve developed my paint skills as far as can control goes, that was when I realized that I can freak it hear, and freak it there! Add a little of this mixed with a little of that!

I’m at point now where I’ve been experimenting more with brush paintings expanding my visions as an artists. I guess its a new time period for me to create outside of my normal routine. But one thing is certain the streets are always calling and I feel it’s important to keep all my street spots on lock! So I’m still right here Toss’n Vapors!
