Interview with: Miss Reds

Where are you from / what city are you holding down? 

Born & raised in the county of DADE!!! MIAMI, but currently residing in North California 

What do you write /  is there a story behind the name? 

Reds – MissReds, Got the name back in high school cause I dyed my hair radiant red, and when I’m active, my cheeks get super red, so one of my homies started calling me Red Crayon.
 

How long have you been on this graffiti scene? 

Been painting since 2007.

What crews do you run with? 

004 – TKO – SAT

How would you describe your style?

Colorful, Tropical & Sharp

What are your thoughts about the current graff scene in your area code? 

There isn’t a HUGE scene here in Sacramento, but there are a lot of dope writers with skill and some of the young homies stay active putting in work. There’s a lot of potential, but it’s a constant battle with the buff. 

As a graffiti artist what are your thoughts on street art being considered the new wave of graffiti? Why is street art & graffiti even being put in the same sentence?

New wave my ass. I feel insulted when people that know nothing of the scene call me a street artist.

What is graffiti all about to you?

To me it’s all about leaving your name behind anywhere you can. No matter how cutty a spot is, or what little town it’s in; someone will see it. Graffiti is my therapy; it will turn a shitty ass day into a great one in an instant.

Do you think graffiti has reached its limits or do you think that new styles will keep arising?

What are some of the writers who inspired you?

Crook & Crome (from Miami) inspired me to start getting up. Seeing em all over Miami during the 90’s & making the news. Dare (RIP) inspired me style wise when I was first trying to develop a style.

When you go out on a mission do you like bombing alone or do u like having some partners in crime out with you? 

I tend to like having someone with me usually. We can help one another on looking out. I see it as having an extra pair of eyes & ears.

You have any crazy stories you want to share when u were out painting? 

Oh wow, there are tons & tons of stories to share. From being chased by raccoon’s & opossums, to having pretty much a “paint-party” on a rooftop & getting spotted by cops lol.

Have you ever been caught? 

A few times.

Ever been to jail due to this? 

Yes, but never have done serious time for it.

What do you prefer to paint on? Walls, trains, permission walls.. etc?

 I don’t really prefer anything. As long as I’m putting paint on a surface, I’m happy!

How did you develop such a flawless skill with cans? And what can we do to sharpen our skills?

HA! Well, the only piece of advice I ever got as i first started was “if you can rock a piece with a stock tip – rusto, you’ll be able to master anything. With years of practice just using Rustos with stock caps was I able to train myself to rock clean pieces. And still til today will I rock a rusto with a stock.

 If you could teach or tell the new generation of writer’s one thing what would it be? 

STOP USING THE INTERNET TO TALK SHIT! and stop jocking these “writers” that pump out dope pieces but never even went bombing in their life. Don’t let anyone discourage you from doing this shit, be humble & throw that ego out the window, cause that shit will get you a nice ass whooping hahaha
