I started out as a foamer, taking flicks of freights, not even necessarily the graffiti on
them. Eventually, I started to zero in on the graff, noticing the same names over and over again.
What I like about flicking freights is that it is a way to document graffiti in some of the
most remote and rural places you can find on this continent. Writers who put in the work on the
lines can see their names rolling through some areas where you would never find graffiti
otherwise, and this is what I try to document with my freight flicks.
Eventually, I was lucky enough to meet some writers in person who started to take me
along on missions, mostly in Chicago. It is not something I ever expected to happen.
With my action flicks, I attempt to show the raw, intense situations that writers put
themselves in so that they are able to get up. These flicks are in very urban areas, drastically
different from my flicks of freight graffiti, which I often try to take in remote areas.
Combining these two kinds of flicks, I try to show how writers can have their names seen
in as many places as possible, no matter where that may be on the map. Whether it is past
barbed wire and motion sensors, or through great plains and high mountains, the most
important thing is to be up.
