Alright so thanks for taking the time out to do this interview, can you give us a brief introduction to who you are, what your history is in the graffiti game and what crew do you rep? Where did the name Paser come from?
An artist by the name of Paser. Started learning about graffiti in the late 90’s, first attempt at using spray paint was in ‘98. It wasn’t until ‘02 when I realized I wanted to learn as much as possible about graffiti. I write for MFK, TM and Creatures. The name Silenced Weapon…. Good Question. From looking at your body of work on Instagram it seems like train yards are kinda your thing! I assume this is where you started and this is what you consider your training grounds? What is the allure of train yards vs walls for you?
I did not start in train yards nor do I think anyone should. Ditches that were walking distance from my home at the time were my training grounds. I like painting walls, especially raw bando walls with grime on them. Production walls with the crew or city shots are A +. Trains are my love. Hunting and painting rare, weathered, historic shortline boxcars is my passion.
Another thing I noticed is that you’re constantly growing and changing up your style, its really inventive how each piece looks totally new and different! I also notice that you collaborate alot and I enjoy the collab you did with the thoughts manifested crew, what do you think of that term “thoughts manifested”? Is that what you think of when you think of graffiti? That these are your thoughts manifested into form?
I appreciate the kind words. Most of the time I feel my pieces look similar but there is always that ONE piece that breaks you out of the rut, and helps move you towards another direction. I feel that graffiti or any creative outlet is your Thoughts Manifested.
What is your favorite documentary or book that covers the history or major players of graffiti and why?
Documentary: “Style Wars” as a classic documentary and history lesson. (ALL) “NEAR” Magazine videos/zines for railroading. Books: “Freight Train Graffiti”
They all capture a glimpse inside the heartbeat of the culture.
Your style is so versatile and with the collaborations you do I imagine you must learn a lot from the other artists that you collab with, what is it like working with so many awesome artists? Do you have any go to crews that you hang with and go on adventures with?
I feel collaborating with other artists is a win-win. You cannot lose – different Thought patterns and ideas being Manifested into one. BOOM. I learn a tremendous amount from painting with and surrounding myself with artists of all mediums. MFK is an adventure in itself. Have you ever been to an amusement park?
What kind of music do you listen to when you paint?
Throes, Primitive Man, Nails, Deftones, End, The Meeting Places, Torche, Crowbar, Thou, Boundaries, Chamber, Angelmaker,The Acacia Strain, Hum, Sunnyday Real Estate , Left Behind, The Heavy Eyes, Years at Sea. Needless to say, a lot of metalcore, sludge, doom metal with hits of shoegaze.
When you’re looking for a new spot to hit, what are you usually looking for? Are you looking for something that will give you good visibility or are you concerned with getting caught? Any times you got ran off by the cops?
Mostly, I am looking for something that has age to it, or something that my piece will travel on.
Chase stories are for campfires.
Any crazy travel stories you can share? What’s the longest road trip you’ve done?
Alabama to Arizona. Made it back in one piece.
Who were the artists that inspired you when you started and who are the artists that have inspired you today? Are they the same, and how do you think instagram has changed the graffiti game?
The same artist’s that inspired me when I started are the same artists that inspire me today. How do I think instagram has changed the graffiti game? Would you still write your name on found objects if the internet crashed today and never returned?
