RONIE – I started writing at the start of the 90s. At an early age, I was blown away by the names that I saw written all around my city and all over the busses. I started connecting the dots and noticed that some names were more prolific than others in work ethic and style so I began to pick favorites and those would be the writers that I would try to emulate, most of these writers were basically done by 1995 or so. Graffiti felt like a youth movement to me, full of adventure, mystery, laughter, and danger riding on a current of art and style. The kids ran shit back then and it was great.
Around 1997 I changed my name and started writing Ronie Miller. I pulled the name from the main character in the movie Can’t Buy Me Love. Despite the movies’ corny flaws I still can relate to its overall point about not losing who you are while trying to climb to the top of a bullshit social pecking order. The underlying story can apply to anything including graffiti. My name change represented the next step for me. I would be asked to be a member of TVCrew in a little time and I was honored. TV was the cream that rose to the top and didn’t fall off like most from the era that sparked me to write, to begin with, it’s a group of friends who happen to be an all-star team.
