Wow, we are back from Liverpool after a crazy weekend at the HUB festival. Located at the Wellington Dock in the Liverpool harbor, this festival had everything, huge graffiti walls, skateboarding, bmx, break dancing, big music stages and tons of local teenagers enjoying the free festival and the creative forces on display. A crazy big crowd of 11.000 people showed up during the day and the 10 crews from all over the UK and one all the way from Brussels were busy in the Write4Gold battle, all working hard on the walls. The surprising topic for the concept painting was: Who is Banksy.
A question often heard, but what would be the answers from the crews? While the nice weather made for a great day, crews not only painted the walls but they also half of the crowd by requests, as everyone seemed to want tags on their bodies and clothing.
The sketching battle with one4all markers on canvas was done in the middle of the day and the word for the sketch was: MODE.
The Sketch top 3 ended like this:
1. Paintwasters
2. Frimeteam
3. Foes
At 5 o’clock the crowd gathered on the other side of the main wall for the actionpacked throwup competition, 2 cans of Premium and 90 seconds, the word was: CREW.
The Throwup top 3 ended like this:
1. RT
2. VA
3. Foes
An hour later it was time for the tagging competition, a Transformer maker was filled with balck Molotow Cocktailink and the crew had to tag the word: CRAZY.
The tagging top 3 ended like this:
1. Frimeteam
2. LG
3. Regiment Phive
At 7 the concept painting walls were all done and the festival was closing for the day. The walls now had 10 different concepts over the Who is Banksy – topic.
After all the crews had voted, the result were extremly close for the top spots.
The top 3 in the Concept Painting category ended like this:
1. RT
2. VA
3. LG
All the results put together gave the overall top 3:
1. RT
2. VA
3 Frimeteam
That means RT, the UK winners from last year, won it again and will go through to the finals at Splash Festival in Germany on July 11th. Big thanks to Kieran and everyone at ZAP Graffiti for the graffiti organisation, big thanks to Sue and everyone at HUB festival for the main organisation, thanks to all the crews that showed up and represented well in good spirits, big thanks to Suspect Package for sorting out the cans and helping out, and thanks everyone else that made Write4Gold Liverpool one crazy cool event!
